Honda Pilot vs Subaru Ascent: Efficiency

The first thing that you should know about Honda’s midsize family SUV is that it’s incredibly efficient. How efficient? Well, it’s able to achieve an EPA-estimated 20 city/27 highway MPG with its 2WD and 9AT Touring trim1.

On the other hand, Subaru’s SUV can also manage an EPA-estimated 27 highway MPG on certain trim levels.

Honda Pilot vs Subaru Ascent: Safety

Honda Pilot Safety FeaturesLet’s move on to safety. Seeing as Honda’s 2020 Pilot is a family SUV, it makes sense that you’d want to know about everything that it’s doing to keep you and your family safe. Luckily, it’s doing a lot.

Honda Sensing® comes standard on every trim level. Look at what this intelligent suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies includes:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking Systemâ„¢ (CMBSâ„¢)
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Furthermore, its advanced airbag systems and its ACE™ body structure will provide the more traditional protections that are so important when you’re out there on the road.

Fortunately, Subaru’s 2020 Ascent is also focused on safety. EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is, in many ways, similar to Honda Sensing®. It even comes with comparable features like Pre-Collision Braking. However, other smart safety systems are only available on the upgraded, more expensive trims.

Honda Pilot vs Subaru Ascent: Amenities

Last, but certainly not least, the Honda Pilot offers the type of sophisticated amenities that have usually been reserved for the luxury segment. We’re talking about an 8-inch Display Audio, a Tri-Zone Automatic Climate Control System, the Advanced Rear Entertainment System, a wireless phone charger, and even Wi-Fi Hotspot capability. Plus, there’s a hands-free access power tailgate, which will make loading a car full of groceries (or soccer balls, or camping gear, or whatever else floats your boat) easier than ever.

The Subaru Ascent can sort of keep up, but it sort of can’t. You can upgrade to an 8-inch multimedia display, but that’s only on the higher trim levels—the base model comes with a smaller, 6.5-inch setup. Tri-zone climate control is standard, but 2nd-row climate controls don’t kick in until you get to the more expensive trim levels. And a wireless phone charger? Forget about it. You’ll have to plug it in.
